2026 Ford Explorer Colors Chart: Every Paint Option and Code

The 2026 Ford Explorer comes in eight exterior colors. Three cost nothing: Agate Black Metallic (UM), Carbonized Gray Metallic (M7) and Space White Metallic (A3). Vapor Blue Metallic (K1), Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat (D4) and the new Marsh Gray (T9) each cost $495.

Star White Metallic Tri-Coat (AZ) costs $795. Oxford White (YZ) is fleet only.

What Most 2026 Explorer Color Guides Get Wrong

Recommended Best Deal Products

A touch-up paint catalog site selling 2026 Explorer colors lists nine options instead of eight. One of them, Iconic Silver Metallic (JS), was dropped from the lineup after the 2025 model year. Ford Authority confirmed JS appeared on the 2025 Explorer’s seven-color list and is absent from the 2026 eight-color list.

The same catalog lists Vapor Blue Metallic under the code C8. The correct code, confirmed across two separate Ford Authority articles published a year apart, is K1. Two more colors on that page are not Explorer colors at all.

One is called Shadow Black, generic and unconfirmed. The other is Blue My Mind, which is actually a Mini Cooper color.

Carryover catalog data like this happens when a vendor’s page template pulls from the wrong model or year. Always confirm a paint code against your own door jamb label, not a parts retailer’s product listing.

Where Is The Paint Code On A 2026 Ford Explorer?

Open the driver door fully. The Safety Compliance Certification Label is on the door jamb or the B-pillar, below the door latch.

Look for the line marked “EXT PNT” or “PAINT”. A two character code follows it, such as M7 or K1. That code, not the marketing color name, is what a body shop or parts counter needs.

If the sticker is missing or unreadable, your 17-character VIN pulls the same build data from Ford’s records. A dealer parts department or the Ford owner portal can run that lookup.

Which Colors Are Free On The 2026 Explorer?

Three colors carry no charge on every 2026 Explorer trim. They are Space White Metallic, Agate Black Metallic and Carbonized Gray Metallic. That includes the entry level Active Base trim.

Every other color on the list costs $495 or $795. Three of those colors are restricted to specific trims.

Which Colors Are Trim Exclusive?

Recommended Best Deal Products

Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat is the most restricted retail color. It is offered only on the ST and Platinum trims.

Marsh Gray is nearly as limited. It is offered only on ST-Line, Tremor and ST, and it cannot be paired with any interior but Onyx. Active, Active Base and Platinum buyers cannot order it.

Star White Metallic Tri-Coat skips the opposite trim. It is available everywhere except Tremor.

Does Your Interior Choice Limit Your Exterior Color?

Only one 2026 Explorer color carries an interior restriction. Marsh Gray pairs exclusively with the Onyx interior.

The 2026 Explorer offers five interior colorways: Dark Space Gray, Space Gray, Onyx, Mojave Dusk and Salt Crystal Gray. Every other exterior color can pair with whichever interior your chosen trim allows.

What’s New For 2026 Compared To 2025?

The 2026 Explorer gains two colors over 2025. They are Space White Metallic (A3) and Marsh Gray (T9). It drops one color: Iconic Silver Metallic (JS).

Every other 2026 color carries the same code it had in 2025. That includes Vapor Blue Metallic, Rapid Red Metallic Tinted Clearcoat, Carbonized Gray Metallic, Agate Black Metallic and Oxford White.

Common Points Of Confusion With 2026 Explorer Paint Codes

What you might seeWhat it actually means
Your invoice or VIN lookup says “Lucid Red” instead of Rapid RedSame paint, code D4. Explorer and other Ford ST owners report the same mismatch between the window sticker name and the internal VIN record. A Ford parts department confirmed the two names point to one color.
A parts catalog lists “Iconic Silver Metallic (JS)” for the 2026 ExplorerThat color existed on the 2025 Explorer. Ford dropped it for 2026. Confirm your model year before ordering touch-up paint under that code.
A catalog lists a four-digit numeric code instead of two lettersThat is usually a vendor’s internal SKU, not Ford’s own paint code. Match your door jamb label’s two-character code instead.
Oxford White has no photo anywhere onlineIt is fleet only and never sold at retail. Ford has not released a press image of it on the 2026 Explorer.

Keeping The Finish Looking Right

A metallic or tri-coat finish like Marsh Gray or Star White shows scratches more than a solid color does. Matching the exact code when touching up a chip keeps the repair invisible.

A touch-up paint pen matched to your code handles small chips before they rust. Confirm the code on your door jamb first, not from memory.

Regular ceramic or carnauba protection keeps a tri-coat finish like Star White looking showroom fresh. A ceramic spray coating adds gloss and makes road grime easier to rinse off between washes.

How The 2026 Explorer Compares

Color is not the only decision here. Our Ford Explorer vs Chevrolet Tahoe comparison covers how pricing and features stack up. Our Ford Explorer vs Hyundai Palisade comparison does the same against that rival.

Honest Uncertainty: Where The Sources Don’t Line Up

Ford Authority published two different 2026 Explorer starting prices in articles eleven days apart. One said $38,330 for Active Base. The other said $38,465 for the lineup overall.

The gap is small but worth knowing about. Confirm current pricing on Ford’s own build and price tool before you order.

A second color-list publication hedges on Tremor’s exact colors. It notes availability can vary by configuration.

Ford Authority’s dedicated color article is more specific, and its numbers are what the chart above uses. Still, a dealer’s current build sheet is the final word for your exact order.

Looking Up Your Own Paint Code

Our Ford color code by VIN guide covers using your VIN when the sticker is damaged. Our paint code location guide covers where Ford puts this label on other models.

If your Explorer wears Rapid Red, our D4 paint code guide covers touch-up specifics for that color. If it wears Oxford White, our YZ paint code guide covers that fleet color on other Ford models.
