2015 Ford Escape Oil Reset: The Steps Ford’s Manual Skips
Turn the ignition to on without starting the engine. Press the accelerator and brake together and hold both fully down. At three seconds the display reads Service: Oil reset in prog.
Keep holding. At twenty five seconds it reads Service: Oil reset complete, and only then can you release.
Your own manual does not print this procedure
I pulled both printings of the 2015 Escape Owner’s Manual. That is the July 2014 first printing and the April 2015 second printing. Neither one spells out the pedal steps.
Both tell you to “reset the Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor after engine oil and filter changes.” Both send you to Engine Oil Check on page 220. That page covers the dipstick, not the reset.

That gap is real, not a scan error. I checked both PDFs twice, once with layout preserved and once raw. I searched every variant of “reset,” “in prog” and “accelerator.” The steps are simply not in the 2015 book.
So where does the procedure below come from? The 2013 and 2014 Escape Owner’s Manuals print it in full, on page 227. Same third generation, same Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor hardware.
Ford did not change the reset mechanism inside one generation. It changed which manual bothered to document it.
The method that does not exist on your Escape, and why it keeps showing up in search results
Search for a Ford Escape oil reset and one answer dominates: open Settings, then Vehicle, then Oil Life, hold OK.
That path is real. It just belongs to a 2017 or newer Escape.
I checked the actual Settings menu tree printed on pages 93 to 94 of your 2015 manual. The menu holds exactly six top-level items: Driver Assist, Lighting, Display, Chimes, Convenience and MyKey. There is no Vehicle submenu, and “Oil Life” never appears as a menu entry.
If you are hunting your steering wheel menu for an Oil Life option, stop. It was not built into this generation. Yearless guides illustrated with a newer dashboard are why that method keeps surfacing for a 2015 search.

Applies to the 2015 Ford Escape, all trims, all three engines.
If your Escape has push-button start: press the START button once without touching the brake pedal. That wakes the electronics to accessory power.
Then run steps 2 through 7. To finish, press START again to switch off completely.
Pressing the brake while you press START on a keyless Escape starts the engine instead. That cancels the reset before it begins.
Why there is no percentage to check
A 2012 or earlier Escape shows OIL LIFE XXX% on the message centre. A 2017 or newer Escape shows Remaining Life as a percent in the steering wheel menu.
Your 2015 shows neither. The 2013 to 2016 generation gives you a message when oil is due, and nothing before that.
Service: Oil reset complete disappearing from the display is your only confirmation the reset took. There is no second way to check it.
Which oil does a 2015 Escape actually take
Ford’s own capacities table splits this by engine, not by trim name. Check your engine, not just your badge.

A bottle marked 5W-20 or 5W-30 alone does not confirm it meets Ford’s WSS spec. Check the label for the WSS number before you buy.
Which engine is in your 2015 Escape
The badge on the liftgate does not name the engine. Ford paired engines to trim like this: the base S came with the 2.5L.
The SE was available with either the 1.6L EcoBoost or the 2.5L. The Titanium came with the 2.0L EcoBoost.
If you are not sure, open the hood. The under-hood emissions label lists the displacement. The engine oil filler cap is also marked for the 1.6L and 2.0L EcoBoost engines.
The reset went through but the message came back in a day or two
That is not a failed reset. It means the pedal sequence never completed. Almost every failure here is releasing at the three-second message instead of the twenty five-second one.
Count the seconds out loud. Twenty five seconds with your foot fully down on both pedals reads much longer than it is.

How often the message should actually appear
Ford’s Intelligent Oil-Life Monitor calculates the interval from how you drive, not a fixed mileage. Normal commuting runs 7,500 to 10,000 miles between messages.
Moderate towing or extended idling drops that to 5,000 to 7,499 miles. Maximum load or extreme temperature use drops it further, to 3,000 to 4,999 miles.
Ford caps every tier at one year or 10,000 miles (16,000 km), whichever comes first.
