2000 ford ranger fuse box diagram reference chart from FordMasterX

2000 Ford Ranger Fuse Box Diagram: Both Locations and Full Charts

Your 2000 Ford Ranger has two fuse boxes. The passenger compartment panel is at the left end of the instrument panel, driver’s side. The power distribution box is in the engine bay, driver’s side, near the firewall.

The cigar lighter runs on fuse F17, rated 25A. A separate auxiliary power socket runs on fuse F22, 20A.

That second socket is the detail most charts miss. See which fuse controls which outlet if that is why you are here.

Most sites get this wrong: your 2000 Ranger does not share a chart with 2001-2005

This site already covers the 2001, 2002 and 2004 Ranger fuse boxes. Do not borrow a row from any of them for a 2000 truck.

One of the aggregator sites I cross-checked against actually proves the split on its own page. It publishes a 1998-2000 table, then a separate 2002-2003 table for the same Ranger, with different values throughout.

Position20002002-2003
Fuse 6Overdrive, back-up lamps, DRL, 4×4, 15ABrake pressure switch, 2A
Fuse 17Cigar lighter, data link connector, 25ACigar lighter, data link connector, 20A
Fuse 19PCM power diode, ignition, PATS, 25APCM power diode, ignition, 25A
Fuse 25Not usedNot used
Fuse 29Radio, 15ARadio, 20A
Fuse 35Not usedHorn relay, if not equipped with a truck CSM, 15A

Fuse 35 is worth a separate note. One of my four sources lists “Horn relay, if not equipped with a truck CSM” under its 2000 column.

Three other sources, including that same site’s own 1998/1999/2000 split, all read fuse 35 as not used for 2000. The horn relay note belongs to the 2002-2003 table, at the same position. One source appears to have carried a later year’s value into the 2000 row, which is exactly the copy-across-generations mistake this cluster exists to avoid.

If you have a 2001-2005 Ranger instead, see our 2001 Ford Ranger fuse box diagram, 2002 Ford Ranger fuse box diagram or 2004 Ford Ranger fuse box diagram, each verified against its own year.

Where are the fuse boxes on a 2000 Ford Ranger?

Passenger compartment fuse panel. Left end of the instrument panel, driver’s side door end. Pull the cover outward to reach the 36 fuse positions, F1 through F36.

Power distribution box. Engine compartment, driver’s side, near the firewall and the brake master cylinder. It holds five Maxi fuses and fifteen Mini fuses, each numbered from 1 on the real cover.

Worth knowing: the cover on your specific truck carries a printed label on the underside. Options and electrical equipment move a handful of positions, and that label is the final authority.

Every fuse in both boxes. Slot colors match the real fuse. F17 and F22 are highlighted, the two separate power-point circuits.

A cheap fuse assortment kit covers both the Mini and Maxi sizes used in these two boxes. It costs less than a single dealer fuse and saves a second trip. Any brand meeting the ATO/ATC standard fits.

Relays in this box: wiper park, A/C, wiper hi/lo, PCM power, fuel pump, starter, horn, fog lamp control, blower motor and foglamp isolation, plus a washer pump relay and a park lamp/trailer tow relay.

Two positions split across my four sources. Maxi fuse M4 reads “power windows” on three of them and “accessory delay relay” on the fourth.

Mini fuse 2 reads “not used” on three of them and “20A, auxiliary power point” on the fourth. I trust the majority reading in both cases, and the box cover label on your truck settles it either way.

Which fuse is the cigar lighter, and which is the auxiliary power socket?

Recommended Best Deal Products

Your 2000 Ranger has two separate power-point circuits, not one. Most fuse charts only mention the cigar lighter and stop there.

F17, rated 25A, runs the cigar lighter and doubles as the Data Link Connector (DLC), your OBD II diagnostic port. F22, rated 20A, runs a separate auxiliary power socket.

If your scan tool will not power on at the diagnostic port, check F17 first. If a rear or console accessory outlet is dead while the cigar lighter still works, check F22 instead.

How do you tell if a fuse is actually blown?

A blown fuse shows a broken metal strip inside the clear plastic body. Pull it and hold it up to a light to check.

A hairline break is easy to miss. Test continuity with a multimeter set to ohms if the strip looks intact. Near zero resistance means the fuse is good.

Never guess the replacement rating. Match the number printed on the old fuse, and check it against your box cover label. A higher rated fuse lets the wiring become the fuse instead, and that failure costs far more to fix.

Why does the same fuse keep blowing?

A fuse that blows once is usually a one-off surge. One that blows again within days is telling you something is wrong upstream, not asking for a bigger fuse.

Unplug whatever you most recently added. A phone charger left in F22’s auxiliary socket is a common repeat offender on these trucks. So is an aftermarket amplifier wired into the radio fuses.

Check for chafed insulation where the harness flexes near the door jamb. Also check under the dash, where past owners may have run accessory wiring.

If a fuse blows the instant you push it in, that circuit has a hard short. Stop replacing fuses and trace the wiring with a proper diagnostic tool instead of guessing. A plastic fuse puller keeps you from cracking the panel housing while you work through the circuit.

A battery that keeps going flat overnight points at a parasitic draw, not a blown fuse. Rule out a weak battery first, since it looks identical to a real draw.

Not sure your truck matches this exactly? Your box cover label is the final authority, especially on Maxi fuse M4 and Mini fuse 2.

If your Ranger is a 2001-2005 model, this chart does not apply. Use the year-specific article for your truck instead, linked above.
