The 2001 to 2003 Ford Ranger reads like one generation online. So most fuse charts republish a single table across all three years. That merge hides a change right on the 2001 to 2002 boundary.
I cross-checked The Ranger Station’s year-split reference table against Auto Genius’s 2001-2002-specific chart. Both agree fuse 6 in the passenger panel is not used on the 2001 model. The 2A brake pressure switch does not appear there until 2002 and 2003.
Two other frequently cited sources disagree. StartMyCar and Ricks Free Auto Repair Advice both list fuse 6 as live at 2A, with no year caveat. That is two sources against two, each claiming to be year-specific.
Fuse-box.info’s own 1998-2000 table shows fuse 6 changing twice already. Not used in 1998 and 1999, then reassigned to overdrive and back-up lamp circuits in 2000. Ford was actively reusing this position, so either reading is plausible for 2001.

Where is the cigar lighter fuse on a 2001 Ford Ranger?
Fuse 17 in the passenger compartment panel, rated 20A. It shares the position with the data link connector. So a fault code reader that won’t power up points at the same fuse.
A second, separate 12V outlet runs through fuse 22 at 20A. That is a common mix-up on trucks with both an ashtray lighter and a separate accessory socket.
Is the 2001 fuse layout the same as 2000 or 2002?
