Ford Ranger Tire Size Chart By Year & Trim: 1983-2026 OEM Sizes & Plus-Size Fits
The Ford Ranger tire size chart below shows original-equipment tire sizes for US-market trucks from 1983–2011 and 2019–2026. A 2026 Ranger XL uses 255/70R17 tires, while the Lariat uses 255/65R18 and the Raptor uses LT285/70R17. Older Rangers have more variations depending on cab, trim, drivetrain, and factory packages.
Find your model year in the tables, then match the trim and original wheel size. Your driver’s-door Tire and Loading Information label is the final check before buying replacements. Chart entries list documented factory fitments, not a promise that every tire shown was installed on every truck of that year.

Standard US-model tire sizes. Match your trim before ordering replacements.

Example: 255/70R17 fits a 17-inch wheel; 70 means the nominal sidewall height is 70% of 255 mm.
Ford Ranger Tire Size Chart for 2024 to 2026
The current US Ranger uses 17-inch or 18-inch factory wheels on regular trims. The Raptor has a larger, LT-rated 17-inch tire. Optional appearance and wheel packages can change the exact configuration.
| Model Year | Ranger Trim | Factory Tire Size | Wheel Diameter | Equipment Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2026 | XL | 255/70R17 | 17 in | Standard |
| 2026 | XLT | 255/70R17 | 17 in | Standard |
| 2026 | Lariat | 255/65R18 | 18 in | Standard |
| 2026 | Raptor | LT285/70R17 | 17 in | Standard |
| 2025 | XL | 255/70R17 | 17 in | Standard |
| 2025 | XLT | 255/70R17 | 17 in | Standard |
| 2025 | XLT | 255/65R18 | 18 in | Available wheel package |
| 2025 | Lariat | 255/65R18 | 18 in | Standard |
| 2025 | Raptor | LT285/70R17 | 17 in | Standard |
| 2024 | XL | 255/70R17 | 17 in | Standard |
| 2024 | XLT | 255/70R17 | 17 in | Standard |
| 2024 | XLT | 255/65R18 | 18 in | Available wheel package |
| 2024 | Lariat | 255/65R18 | 18 in | Standard |
| 2024 | Raptor | LT285/70R17 | 17 in | Standard |
Ford’s 2026 Ranger XL specifications identify 255/70R17 tires, and its separate XLT, Lariat, and Raptor specifications confirm the other 2026 standard sizes. The 2024 and 2025 fitments were checked against model-year tire listings and Ford specifications.
Raptor warning: An LT285/70R17 tire is not interchangeable with the regular Ranger’s smaller passenger-metric tire merely because both fit a 17-inch wheel. Tire width, diameter, load capacity, and wheel specifications also matter.
Ford Ranger Tire Sizes for 2019 to 2023
The US Ranger returned for 2019 with several factory tire sizes. XL, XLT, and Lariat fitments differed by trim and wheel package, while certain 2021–2023 Tremor trucks used 265/70R17 tires.
| Model Year | Factory Tire Sizes Documented | Trim or Package Guide |
|---|---|---|
| 2023 | 255/70R16, 255/65R17, 265/65R17, 265/60R18, 265/70R17 | XL, XLT, Lariat; 265/70R17 on Tremor |
| 2022 | 255/70R16, 255/65R17, 265/65R17, 265/60R18, 265/70R17 | XL, XLT, Lariat; 265/70R17 on Tremor |
| 2021 | 255/70R16, 255/65R17, 265/65R17, 265/60R18, 265/70R17 | XL, XLT, Lariat; 265/70R17 on Tremor |
| 2020 | 255/70R16, 255/65R17, 265/65R17, 265/60R18 | XL, XLT, Lariat; depends on wheels and drivetrain |
| 2019 | 255/70R16, 255/65R17, 265/65R17, 265/60R18 | XL, XLT, Lariat; depends on wheels and drivetrain |
The tire sizes in each row are the documented choices across configurations, not five sizes approved for one specific Ranger. For example, 255/70R16 is associated with certain XL fitments, while 265/60R18 occurs with 18-inch wheel packages. Goodyear’s 2022 Ranger trim-specific tire listings distinguish those options and the Tremor configuration.
Do not assume the 265/70R17 Tremor tire will fit a non-Tremor Ranger without checking suspension clearance, wheel specifications, and the load rating. The next table covers the older North American platform.
Ford Ranger Tire Sizes for 1998 to 2011
Earlier Rangers often used 14-, 15-, or 16-inch wheels. The table groups documented sizes by year and gives configuration examples, rather than presenting one tire as universal across 2WD and 4WD trucks.
| Year | Documented Factory Tire Sizes | Configuration Examples |
|---|---|---|
| 2011 | 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 235/70R16, 255/70R16 | XL/XLT 2WD; XL 4WD; Sport; XLT 4WD |
| 2010 | 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 235/70R16, 255/70R16 | XL/XLT 2WD; XL 4WD; Sport; XLT 4WD |
| 2009 | 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 235/70R16, 255/70R16 | XL/XLT 2WD; Sport; FX4/XLT 4WD |
| 2008 | 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 235/70R16, 255/70R16 | XL/XLT 2WD; Sport; FX4/XLT 4WD |
| 2007 | 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 235/70R16, 255/70R16, 31×10.50R15LT | XL, XLT, Sport; selected FX4 |
| 2006 | 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 235/70R16, 255/70R16, 31×10.50R15LT | XL, XLT, Sport; selected FX4 |
| 2005 | 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 235/70R16, 255/70R16, 31×10.50R15LT | XL, XLT, Edge, STX; selected FX4 |
| 2004 | 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 235/70R16, 245/75R16, 31×10.50R15LT | XL, XLT, Edge, Tremor; selected FX4 |
| 2003 | 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 245/75R16, 31×10.50R15LT | XL, XLT, Edge and off-road packages |
| 2002 | 215/75R15, 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 245/75R16, 31×10.50R15LT | XL, XLT, Edge and off-road packages |
| 2001 | 215/75R15, 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 245/75R16 | XL, XLT, Edge and off-road packages |
| 2000 | 215/75R15, 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 245/75R16 | XL, XLT and XLT Off-Road |
| 1999 | 205/75R14, 215/75R15, 225/70R15, 235/75R15, 245/75R16, 265/75R15 | XL, XLT, Splash; specific 4.0L 4WD setups |
| 1998 | 205/75R14, 215/75R14, 225/70R14, 215/75R15, 235/60R15, 235/75R15 | XL, XLT and Splash; selected optional packages |
The 1998–2011 chart illustrates why cab and drivetrain identification matters. A 2011 XLT 2WD is listed with 225/70R15, but an XLT 4WD is listed with 255/70R16. The same year can therefore require a different wheel diameter and tire size.
Goodyear’s 2005 Ranger original-fitment listings also identify different 2WD, 4WD, SuperCab, Edge, and FX4 combinations. In particular, 31×10.50R15LT belongs to selected off-road/FX4 applications; it should not be labeled the default tire for every 2005 Ranger.
Ford Ranger Tire Sizes for 1983 to 1997
First- and second-generation US Rangers used mainly 14-inch wheels on 2WD trucks and 15-inch wheels on 4WD versions. The exact original tire depended on trim, GVWR, and optional equipment.
| Year | Documented 2WD Tire Sizes | Documented 4WD Tire Sizes |

How to use this older-truck chart: First identify 2WD or 4WD. Then check the original wheel diameter, trim, and GVWR. Different sizes within the same cell represent different documented builds, not interchangeable recommendations. Early GVWR and camper-package variations are particularly important: Goodyear’s 1983 Ranger fitment listings separate them rather than giving a single size.
A 235/60R15 tire on a Splash, for example, is not evidence that a basic 1997 XL with 14-inch wheels came with that same tire. Use your truck’s label or original factory paperwork to make the final match.
Why US Rangers Have No 2012 to 2018 Chart
There are no US-market Ford Ranger model years from 2012 through 2018 in this guide. Ford ended that North American Ranger line after the 2011 model year and brought the pickup back to the US for 2019.
Rangers were sold in other markets during the gap, but international models followed different generations and equipment specifications. An overseas 2016 Ranger tire chart is not a valid substitute for a US-spec 2011 or 2019 Ranger. Owners of imported trucks should consult their market-specific tire label and Ford documentation.
How to Confirm Your Ranger Factory Tire Size

A year-by-year chart narrows your options; the truck’s original tire information label identifies the correct setup.
- Open the driver’s door. Locate the Tire and Loading Information label on the door frame, B-pillar, or door edge.
- Read the tire specification. Note the complete code, including any
LTprefix, load index, and speed rating shown with the tire information. - Check your installed tire sidewall. Compare its printed size to the original label. A different size may mean a previous owner changed the wheels or tires.
- Check the owner’s manual if needed. Use the manual for your exact model year, and obtain vehicle-specific confirmation if the placard is missing or illegible.
The tire label also gives the recommended cold inflation pressures. Those figures are not necessarily the same for every Ranger tire package. For a broader explanation of model-specific pressures, see our Ford tire pressure chart by model, then use your Ranger’s own label as the authority.
What Ford Ranger Tire Size Numbers Mean
The notation 255/70R17 explains a tire’s size, not which vehicle is approved to use it.
| Marking | Meaning | Example |
|---|---|---|
| 255 | Nominal section width in millimeters | 255 mm |
| 70 | Sidewall height as a percentage of width | 70% of 255 mm |
| R | Radial tire construction | Radial |
| 17 | Wheel diameter in inches | 17-inch wheel |
For this example, the calculated nominal sidewall height is 178.5 mm, and the approximate unloaded overall diameter is 31.1 inches. These are geometric estimates; actual mounted dimensions vary by tire model and wheel.
LT285/70R17 is an LT-metric size and includes a light-truck designation. 31x10.50R15LT, found on certain older FX4 packages, uses flotation-style notation: approximately 31-inch diameter, 10.5-inch section width, and a 15-inch wheel. Do not compare nominal sizes alone when selecting replacements.
What Changes When You Fit Larger Ranger Tires
A larger tire can change more than the appearance of your Ranger. Overall diameter, width, load capacity, and wheel offset influence whether the setup works safely.
Clearance and rubbing. A wider or taller tire may contact bodywork, suspension components, or the wheel-well liner when steering or compressing the suspension. Successful fitment on a modified truck does not prove that the tire clears a stock truck.
Speedometer accuracy. A change in rolling diameter changes wheel revolutions per mile. A substantially larger tire may cause the speedometer and distance readings to differ from actual road speed unless the system is properly recalibrated.
Load and construction. Check the complete load index, speed rating, tire type, and wheel compatibility. The Raptor’s LT-rated tire and a regular Ranger’s standard tire are not automatically substitutes for one another.
Wheel fitment. Tire size is separate from the wheel’s bolt pattern and offset. Before swapping rims, use the Ford Ranger bolt pattern chart by year to check the correct wheel-mounting pattern, then confirm the remaining fitment dimensions for your particular truck.
If you cannot confirm clearance and load requirements, use the manufacturer-specified size rather than guessing at an upgrade.
Which Ford Ranger Tire Size Should You Choose
Choose the tire size listed on the Tire and Loading Information label for your exact Ford Ranger, unless a properly evaluated alternative has been specified for that vehicle. The Ford Ranger tire size chart is the starting point for identifying original equipment, not permission to install every size shown within a model-year row.
For 2024–2026 trucks, trim differences are easy to see: regular Rangers commonly use 17- or 18-inch wheels, while the Raptor has LT285/70R17 tires. Older Rangers have more drivetrain, cab, and package variations. Match the tire code, wheel diameter, load and speed requirements before ordering. When the chart and your actual truck do not agree, investigate the configuration using the original vehicle label and model-year records.
Ford Ranger Tire Size Chart FAQs
What Is the Stock Tire Size on a Ford Ranger?
There is no single stock tire size for every Ford Ranger. For example, a 2026 XL uses 255/70R17 while a 2026 Lariat uses 255/65R18. Use the year and trim tables, then verify the Tire and Loading Information label.
What Tire Size Does a 2026 Ford Ranger Use?
The 2026 Ranger XL and XLT use 255/70R17 as their standard tire, the Lariat uses 255/65R18, and the Raptor uses LT285/70R17. Optional wheel and tire packages can differ, so confirm the original configuration before purchasing.
Do Ford Ranger XL and XLT Use the Same Tires?
Some do, but not every configuration. Both 2026 trims have a standard 255/70R17 tire, while XLT wheel options can change the tire setup. Older XL and XLT models also vary by model year, drivetrain, and package.
Can I Put Larger Tires on My Ford Ranger?
Possibly, but the size needs a complete fitment check. Tire diameter, width, wheel offset, suspension clearance, and load rating all matter. Do not treat an aftermarket size as factory-approved just because another Ranger owner fitted it.
Where Can I Find My Ford Ranger Factory Tire Size?
Look for the Tire and Loading Information label on the driver’s door frame, B-pillar, or door edge. It identifies the original tire specification and cold inflation information. If the label is missing, consult the owner’s manual and vehicle-specific factory records.
