2012 Ford Fusion Fuse Box Diagram: Both Locations, Every Fuse
Your 2012 Ford Fusion has two fuse boxes. The passenger compartment panel sits below and to the left of the steering wheel, by the brake pedal. The power distribution box is under the hood, next to the battery. The console power point fuse is 22. The front power point fuse is 29. Both are 20A, both in the engine bay box.

Where are the fuse boxes on a 2012 Fusion?
Recommended Best Deal Products
Passenger compartment fuse panel (Smart Junction Box). Driver side, below and to the left of the steering wheel, next to the brake pedal, behind a pull-off cover. This panel carries 47 fuse positions plus one delayed accessory relay.
Power distribution box (Battery Junction Box). Engine compartment, mounted beside the battery. This is the larger box: 58 total positions across cartridge fuses, mini fuses, diodes and relays.
The 2012 Fusion Hybrid uses a different engine compartment box. It is built around the high-voltage battery module, plus an auxiliary relay box in front of the radiator. This chart covers the gas 2.5L, 3.0L V6 and 3.5L V6 Fusion. If your VIN decodes as a Hybrid, treat the numbers below as a starting point only. Check your own box cover to confirm.

Fuses 1 and 2 are 50A cartridge fuses. They feed the electric power steering module on its own circuit, separate from the ignition switch battery feed. Lose both and the wheel gets heavy. It does not go dead.

What changed between the 2011 and 2012 Fusion, position by position
This is the number a generic fuse chart site will not have. Most of them publish one table for 2010 to 2012 and never check it against a single model year.
| Position | 2011 | 2012 |
|---|---|---|
| Fuse 4 (interior) | Not used (spare), 30A slot | Passenger smart window motor, 30A |
| Fuse 38 (interior) | Subwoofer amplifier, 20A | Not used (spare) |
| Fuse 43 (interior) | Not used (spare) | Rain sensor, 10A |
If your Fusion has a factory subwoofer that stopped working, do not pull fuse 38 on a 2012 expecting to find it. Ford moved that circuit off fuse 38 for this model year. Fuse-box.info’s own year-split chart is the only aggregator we found that shows the change instead of papering over it. Fuse 19 (25A, amplifier) and fuse 39 (20A, radio) are unaffected. Those two remain the fuses to check for the main audio system on a 2012.
A second discrepancy showed up between sources, and it comes down to equipment level, not a mistake. One independently compiled chart lists engine bay fuses 20 and 21 as feeding an audio DSP module and amplifier, 20A each. It also lists interior fuses 26 and 27 feeding HID headlamp relays at 15A each. Every other source we checked marks those same positions unused. Those extra assignments match a Fusion built with the optional Sony DSP audio system and HID headlamps. The base and SE trims most commonly sold leave those positions empty. The label inside your own box cover, not any chart online, tells you which trim you actually have.
Which fuse is the cigar lighter and 12V power point?
Recommended Best Deal Products
There is no cigar lighter fuse in the cab panel on this generation. Both accessory power points live in the engine bay box instead. Fuse 22, 20A, covers the console power point. Fuse 29, 20A, covers the front power point. If you searched for a cab-panel cigar lighter fuse and could not find one, that is why. Pop the hood instead of pulling the interior cover.
Which fuse controls the radio?
Three interior fuses and one relay touch the audio system, and which one is out tells you what to expect.
- Fuse 39, 20A: radio. Main head unit feed. Lose this and the screen and radio go dark together.
- Fuse 19, 25A: amplifier. Sound cuts out or distorts with the screen still working.
- Fuse 13, 5A: SYNC module. Voice control and Bluetooth die, radio and amplifier keep working.
- Fuse 38, interior, 20A: fed the subwoofer amplifier in 2011. On a 2012 this position is an unused spare. A dead subwoofer on your specific car needs tracing at the amp itself, not this fuse.
Which fuse controls the A/C, blower and heated seats?
| Symptom | Check this | Box |
|---|---|---|
| Fan blows but never gets cold | Fuse 25, 10A, A/C clutch relay | Engine bay |
| No air at any blower speed | Fuse 35, 40A, blower motor relay power | Engine bay |
| Climate control panel dead | Fuse 15, 10A | Interior |
| Heated seats not working | Fuse 18, 20A | Interior |
| Heated mirrors not working | Fuse 38, engine bay, 10A | Engine bay |
| Rear defroster dead | Fuse 6, engine bay, 40A | Engine bay |
The blower motor fuse is a 40A engine bay fuse, working through relay 52, not a mini fuse in the cab. If the fan runs on high only, the fuse and relay are fine. The blower motor resistor is the next thing to check.
Which fuse stops the Fusion from starting?
Four positions cover most no-start complaints on this generation.
- Fuse 5, engine bay, 30A. Starter motor, through relay 55. No crank at all starts here.
- Fuse 3, engine bay, 40A. PCM power, through relay 57. Cranks but will not fire.
- Fuse 27, interior, 20A. Ignition switch. A dead cluster and no crank together points here before the starter itself.
- Fuse 30, engine bay, 30A. Fuel relay. Cranks, sounds normal, will not start, check this alongside fuse 3.
Cranks but will not start points at fuel and PCM power, fuses 3 and 30. No crank at all points at the starter and ignition switch circuits, fuses 5 and 27.
How do you tell if a fuse is actually blown?
Pull it and hold it to a light. An intact fuse shows an unbroken metal strip. A blown one shows a visible gap or a smoked, discolored window.
- A hairline crack can look fine at a glance. If unsure, test continuity with a multimeter set to ohms. Near zero ohms means the fuse is good.
- Match the amperage, never upgrade it. The engine bay cartridge fuses are a different physical size than the mini fuses. A mixed ATO/ATC fuse assortment kit with a puller covers the mini side. Cartridge fuses are less commonly stocked. Check your box cover before you buy.
- Relays fail without ever blowing. Positions 41, 43, 52, 53, 54, 55 and 57 are relays, not fuses. A dead circuit at one of these positions can mean a failed relay with the fuse still perfectly good.
Why does the same fuse keep blowing?
A fuse that blows once is usually a surge. One that blows again within a day or two means the fault is upstream. Replacing it on repeat just delays the real fix.
- Unplug anything added recently. A phone charger, a dash cam or an aftermarket amplifier on the wrong circuit accounts for most repeat blows here.
- Check the console and front power points first. Fuses 22 and 29 see the heaviest aftermarket load, from inverters to chargers left plugged in.
- Look for chafed wiring near the doors and steering column. The harness flexes every time the car is driven.
- Rule out a stuck relay. A relay that welded closed pulls current continuously, taking its fuse with it, even with nothing extra plugged in.
If a fresh fuse blows the moment you seat it, that circuit has a hard short. Stop replacing fuses and trace the wiring instead. Our Ford diagnostic tool comparison covers scan tools that read live circuit data instead of guessing from the fuse box.
