2012 Ford Escape Fuse Box Diagram: Locations and Fuse List
Your 2012 Ford Escape has two fuse boxes. The passenger compartment panel is on the passenger side, by the center console.
The power distribution box is in the engine bay, next to the battery. The front power point and cigar lighter run through fuse 40 in the cabin panel, rated 20A.
Most charts floating around for this exact model year are built for the wrong generation. See the next section if that is what sent you here, or skip to the full charts.
Most 2012 Escape fuse charts are built for the wrong generation
Your 2012 Escape is the facelifted second generation, built on what Ford calls the U204 platform from 2008 through 2012. The completely redesigned third generation Escape did not arrive until the 2013 model year.
At least one widely indexed fuse chart site publishes a page titled “Ford Escape (from 2012).” It lists fuse numbers F56 through F89, plus a luggage compartment panel. That is the third generation layout. It does not exist on your truck.
If a chart for your 2012 Escape shows fuse numbers starting with “F,” you have the wrong generation. The same is true if it lists a separate trunk fuse panel.
Either way, that is a 2013-and-newer chart by mistake. Your actual fuse numbers run 1 through 48 in the cabin panel, with no letter prefix.
Worth knowing: trim level, engine and installed options can change which positions carry a live circuit on your specific truck. Your box cover label is the final authority, not this chart or any other.
Where are the fuse boxes on a 2012 Ford Escape?
Passenger compartment fuse panel. Passenger side of the cabin, by the center console next to the instrument panel. Remove the panel cover to reach the fuses.
Power distribution box. Engine compartment, driver side, next to the battery, under a black plastic cover. This box holds the starter, cooling fan and ABS fuses.

Passenger compartment fuse chart: fuses 1 to 48
This chart matches the Ford 2012 Escape owner’s manual, as transcribed by startmycar.com. It is identical on the gas and Hybrid 2012 Escape, position for position.
A second independent source, Rick’s Free Auto Repair Advice, agrees on most positions. It disagrees on fuses 31, 32 and 35, covered after the chart.

Fuses 31, 32 and 35 are where two sources disagree. Ford’s own manual lists 31 as the restraints control module and 32 as the rear video camera module.
Rick’s Free Auto Repair Advice shifts both down one slot. It also calls 35 an ABS fuse, rather than the four wheel drive and steering circuit Ford lists.
The manual-sourced numbering above is used here because it cites the primary document directly. Your airbag light and backup camera may point to one fuse instead of two. Check your box cover label before assuming either chart is wrong.

Rick’s Free Auto Repair Advice disagrees with the manual on fuses 7 through 9 and 14 in this box. It differs on both circuit and amperage. The manual-sourced values above are used for the same reason as the cabin panel. A direct citation beats an uncited compiled chart.
A cheap fuse assortment kit covers both boxes. Any brand meeting the ATO/ATC and mini fuse standard fits. It costs less than one dealer fuse and saves a second trip.
Does the fuse box change if your 2012 Escape is a Hybrid?
The cabin panel does not change. Every position in the chart above matches a 2012 Escape Hybrid exactly, confirmed against a separate Hybrid-specific source.
The engine bay power distribution box does change. The Hybrid adds a traction battery control module, an electric vacuum pump and a heater/coolant pump. The gas 2.5L and 3.0L do not carry any of that hardware.
That extra hardware shifts two fuses you are likely to search for. On the gas Escape, fuel pump is fuse 22 and ignition coils are fuse 26. On the Hybrid, fuel pump moves to fuse 26 and ignition coils move to fuse 22, the exact opposite pairing.
If your Escape is a Hybrid and the engine will not start, check fuse 26 for the fuel pump first. Do not check fuse 22. A gas-model chart will send you to the wrong slot.
2012 Ford Escape symptom to fuse guide
Readers usually arrive with a symptom, not a fuse number. This maps the common ones.
| What is not working | Check this fuse |
|---|---|
| Front power point or cigar lighter dead | Fuse 40, 20A (cabin) |
| Rear/center console power point dead | Fuse 3, 20A (power distribution box) |
| No air movement at any blower speed | Fuse 12, 40A (power distribution box), fuse 45 relay (cabin) |
| Left low beam headlamp out | Fuse 7, 10A (cabin) |
| Right low beam headlamp out | Fuse 8, 10A (cabin) |
| High beams will not come on | Fuse 23, 15A (cabin) |
| Horn will not sound | Fuse 24 relay (cabin) |
| Radio or display dead | Fuse 28, 5A and fuse 39, 20A (cabin) |
| No crank, no start, gas engine | Fuse 11, 30A starter (power distribution box) |
| Engine cranks but will not fire, fuel pump suspected, gas engine | Fuse 22, 20A (power distribution box) |
| Same symptom, Hybrid | Fuse 26, 20A (power distribution box) |
| ABS or traction control light on | Fuse 9, 50A or fuse 18, 20A (power distribution box) |
| Backup camera image missing | Fuse 32, 10A (cabin) |
| Airbag or restraints warning light on | Fuse 31, 10A (cabin) |
| Security light flashing, will not start, PATS fault | Fuse 36, 5A (cabin) |
| Power windows dead on all doors | Fuse 47 circuit breaker, 30A (cabin) |
| Rear window defroster dead | Fuse 2, 30A (power distribution box) |
| Moon roof will not open | Fuse 4, 30A (cabin) |
How do you tell if a fuse is actually blown?
Pull it and look through the plastic window at the metal strip inside. An intact fuse has an unbroken strip. A blown one shows a visible gap, or the window looks smoked dark.
A hairline break is easy to miss. Hold the fuse up to a light, or test continuity with a multimeter set to ohms. Near zero resistance means the fuse is good.
Never guess the replacement rating. Match the number printed on the old fuse and cross-check your box cover label. A higher rated fuse lets the wiring become the fuse instead, and that costs far more to fix.
Why does the same fuse keep blowing?
A fuse that blows once is usually a one-off surge. One that blows again within days is telling you something is wrong upstream, not asking for a bigger fuse.
Unplug whatever you most recently added. A phone charger left in the power point is a common repeat offender. So is an aftermarket amplifier, a trailer harness or a dash cam.
Look for chafed insulation where the harness moves. Door jambs and the liftgate hinge flex thousands of times over a truck’s life. That is where wiring usually frays first.
If a fuse blows the instant you push it in, that circuit has a hard short. Stop replacing fuses and trace the wiring with a proper diagnostic tool instead of guessing.
Did the fuse box change across the 2008 to 2012 Escape?
No, not for the circuits most owners search for. The 2008 through 2012 Escape shares one generation and one fuse box footprint, the U204 platform.
The blower motor sits at power distribution box fuse 12, rated 40A, on both the 2011 and 2012 model years. An independent year-specific source confirms both years. The cabin panel’s position count and most assignments carry across the run too.
That consistency ends the moment the generation changes.
This site also covers the 2014 Ford Escape, the 2017 Ford Escape and the 2018 Ford Escape. All three are third generation trucks with the F56 through F89 numbering scheme. None of those numbers apply here.
